Ultra Sounds is the first English-language publication dedicated to the Polish Radio Experimental Studio, that is, to the testing ground for the production of electronic and electro-acoustic music, a place unprecedented as to its format in the countries of the Eastern Bloc. Since 1957 composers and sound engineers had been working there on innovative pieces of electronic music, musique concrete, as well as radio dramas and soundtracks. Moreover, the Warsaw Studio was a meeting place of the major composers from the East and from the West: Hugh Davies, Dubravko Detoni, Lejaren Hiller, Roland Kayn, Krzysztof Knittel, Arne Nordheim, Krzysztof Penderecki, Bogusław Schaeffer or Elżbieta Sikora. In addition, the Polish Radio Experimental Studio supplemented and provided support to artistic activities of visual artists, such as Jan Lenica, Krzysztof Wodiczko or Józef Robakowski. The publication includes essays by musicologists, architectural, art, and film historians, as well as interviews with engineers working in the Studio and lecture transcriptions and broadcasts from the 1960s and 1970s ISBN 978-3-86828-921-3 Published in 2019 Dimensions: 19,5 x 26 x 3 cm Cover: soft cover Language: English Number of pages: 336 Illustrations: ca.98 (48 in colour and 50 black & white)
