A charming and highly decorative French faïence strawberry strainer with matching underplate, hand-painted and signed by T. Duca. This piece dates to the late 19th–early 20th century (circa 1890–1910) and was most likely produced in the Rouergue region of southern France, where small ateliers flourished in traditional faïence decoration. The strainer and plate feature delicate floral sprays in rich tones of blue, green, and rose, set against a creamy ground and finished with a warm pink border. The painter’s signature, T. Duca, appears clearly on the base – a known decorator associated with provincial faïence workshops. These strawberry strainers, sometimes called écumoires à fraises, were fashionable tablewares in late 19th-century France, designed to serve fresh berries elegantly with a matching dish to catch the juices. Today, they are increasingly scarce and sought after by collectors of European pottery and faïence. Details: • Maker: Signed by T. Duca (decorator) • Origin: France, likely Rouergue/Aveyron region • Date: c.1890–1910 • Material: Glazed faïence (tin-glazed earthenware) • Decoration: Hand-painted floral sprays, pink border • Form: Strawberry strainer with underplate • Condition: Good antique condition with light wear consistent with age A wonderful piece of provincial French tableware – both practical in its time and a highly decorative collectible today.
